About emotilink
emotilink is a national tele-therapy marketplace, available on iOS, that connects people with licensed mental health providers and gives both sides of the couch more control. Users browse and choose their own therapist, scale or end sessions on their own terms, and pay only for the time they use. Therapists keep more of what they earn — founding therapists pay 5%, well below the 20–40% standard for the category. emotilink was founded by Chris Capshaw, who spent years searching for the right therapist, and Vanessa Cutler, a practicing physician and psychiatrist. Headquartered at MATTER in Chicago.

Key facts
Founders
Chris Capshaw, Founder
Chris spent years inside the U.S. mental health system trying to find a therapist who actually worked for him. He built emotilink to be the platform he wished had existed when he was searching. Based in Dallas.
Vanessa Cutler, MD, Co-Founder
Vanessa is a practicing physician and psychiatrist in New York and Chris’s friend for over 25 years. She co-founded emotilink because she wanted a platform that worked for both sides of the couch. Continues to practice psychiatry; serves as the company’s clinical reviewer of record.

“I’m one of the people emotilink was built for. I tried therapy. Some of it helped; most of it didn’t. The hard part was never the therapy — it was finding the right person to do it with.”
“Most platforms in this category charge therapists 20 to 40 percent of what they earn and choose the therapist for the patient. We do neither. The therapist sets their fees and keeps most of what they make. The patient picks their own provider. That’s the structure of the company.”
“Sometimes you just have to meet someone before you know whether it’s going to work. We built the platform around that fact instead of pretending an algorithm could shortcut it.”
Quotes from Vanessa Cutler available on request.
